The benefits of yoga:

Yoga operates across physical, mental and spiritual planes.
Yoga incorporates the seen and the unseen.

It allows you to become aware of the physical elements first, the underlying mental aspects and eventually the spiritual energy and laws that are hidden to all but a few.

Some physical benefits:

Releases emotional and physical tension
Strengthens and lengthens the whole muscular system
Strengthens and stimulates the nervous system
Stimulates and slows the circulatory system
Increases the digestive power
Regulates the excretory system
Strengthens and aligns the skeletal system
Strengthens and stimulates the respiratory system
Regulates and balances blood pressure
Strengthens the immune system
Increases and distributes energy (prana)
Gives greater flexibility of all muscles and joints

Yoga can be adapted to any dis-ease or inner-jury state or condition

Specific workouts can be applied to the following:

acidity, anaemia, ankles problems, appendicitis, arthritis, asthma, backache, high blood pressure, low blood pressure, brain problems, loss of memory, breathlessness, bronchitis, broncho- pneumonia, chills and coughs, colds and flu, colic, colitis, constipation, coronary thrombosis, deformity of legs or arms, diabetes, diarrhoea, dilation of the heart, displacement of uterus, displacement of spinal disks, dysentery, dyspepsia, epilepsy, eye problems, fatigue and CFS, flat feet, flatulence, gall bladder and liver problems, gastritis, giddiness, gout, halitosis, hamstring problems, headache, heart trouble, heart burn, heel spurs, hernia (umbilical and inguinal), hunch back, hydrocele, impotency, indigestion, insomnia, kidney problems, knee problems, labour pain spleen, pancreas, etc,etc.

From that first day that the I walked into a yoga class and struggled through it, yoga has continued to bring me more precious gifts than I ever realise.
