Suzanne has had a full time commitment to the study and practice of yoga on all levels for almost fifteen years.

During that time she completed two and a half years teacher training under Kameron Storey - a challenging, innovative and inspiring teacher.

She also helped set up two yoga centres, one in Sydney, one on the Gold Coast and is now director of the Gold Coast Yoga Centre, supported by a wonderful team of teachers.

She has been blessed to attend workshops with such esteemed teachers as Shandor Remete, Pattabhi Jois, Gita Iyengar, Iain Clark, Glenn Ceresoli, Peter & Sue Scott, Simon Borg-Olivier, Simon Marocco, Dena Kingsberg, Nicky Knoff & James Bryan, Graeme Northfield & Clive Sheridan.

She continues to study philosophy with Rami Sivan, and has the guidance of her mentor Perry Mardon to help apply the yoga teachings in practical ways in business and in life.

As well as directing the centre, Suzanne offers private tuition (yogic breath therapy a unique specialty) teaches technique workshops and trains teachers.

Suzanne has a deep gratitude for the enormous benefits she has gained from yoga on all levels - physical, mental, emotional and spiritual, and attributes yoga to giving both meaning and direction to her life, as well as supporting her through difficult times.

She tries to follow the teachings of yoga in all areas of her life. She wishes freedom, wisdom and wellness for all beings. Humanitarian and environmental issues are close to
her heart. She believes in compassionate truth.

Suzanne is committed to creating a centre where students can come and be guided on their yoga journey by sincere, dedicated teachers with knowledge and experience.

My Guru's name is Papaji and he is from the Advaita Vedanta tradition in the lineage of Ramana Maharishi.  I have spent 3 years in India off-and-on, spending time with my Master, studying some yoga and visiting many places.  My principle yoga teachers are Nicky Knoff and James Bryan with whom I spent about 18 months in full-time teacher training assisting them and studying with them at the Ashtanga Yoga Academy in Cairns beginning in 1994. I spent another 6 months in Iyengar training with John Leebold at the Western Australia School of Yoga in Perth.  I have been teaching Yoga full-time since 1995.

Since my training teachers I have studied with who have affected my practice include BKS Iyengar, Pattabhi Jois, Richard Freeman, Tim Miller and Glenn Ceresoli.

I am ordained as a Zen Priest with my teacher Hogen-san Yamahata and I am continuing my studies with him.  I attend workshops with our visiting teachers as well as continuing with my own self-study and practice.

I have taught here at the Gold Coast Yoga Centre since 1997.

Kam Storey

Kam came to yoga with numerous physical ailments including knee, back & neck problems, multiple shoulder dislocations & chronic fatigue. Yoga helped him gradually heal these conditions.

The most pressing issues internally however were 'what was the purpose of life ?' & 'why it contained suffering?'

Meditation enabled him to understand more of life's natural direction & harmony & how to dissolve sufferings.

Kam completed a five & a half year yoga apprenticeship with Shandor Remete in Oct '95 & has attended workshops with other teachers including B.K.S Iyengar & Pattabhi Jois.

During those early years there were two to three classes per day to teach & practice, most days. These were either group classes or individual therapy sessions.

Kathy Mason

I have been practicing yoga since 1996 and started teaching in 1999.

I trained at the Gold Coast Yoga Centre under the guidance of  Kameron Storey, Suzanne Gray and Mark Togni for a period of 1.5 years.  I have continued to refine my knowledge and teaching skills under Suzanne over the last 8 years; and I am continually learning even more about myself, through my own practice and teaching.

I have been lucky enough to work with a number of teachers including Shandor Remete, Glen Ceresoli, Simon Morocco, Sri K Pattabhi Jois, Peter Scott and Nicky Knoff.

My teaching is similar to the Iyengar style, but with slightly more flow. I teach using Iyengar techniques, together with my own flavour and experience.  Teaching all levels, beginners, level I & II, supportive and replenishing practices included, I believe in a balanced practice for a balanced life.

As well as teaching classes during the week, I also teach private sessions to aid in advancing an individuals self practice.

Yoga has inspired me to pass on my experiences through teaching.  On a personal level I feel I am a more contented and patient person with a deeper understanding of myself and others. I do try to live my daily life according to the philosophy of yoga.

Yoga has this wonderful way of bringing out the best in ourselves and I have no hesitation in recommending yoga to anyone.

Teacher Trainees

trainees

Clint, Helen, Paula & Christine are our 4 current (wonderful) trainees. You will see them around in class assisting as well as practicing. They have all practiced with us for a number of years and felt they wanted to take their yoga practice further and eventually share the benefits they experience with others. The teacher trainee program is rigourous, minimum two years duration of about 30 hours a week on average, so there needs to be a strong level of commitment and love for the practice. It is a privilege to be sharing this journey with them, and it's an experience from which we all grow and evolve as individuals and as a centre.
