THOUGHT FOR TODAY

"A bowl of porridge, a bowl of rice Contemplate, they do not come easily.
A bit of silk, a piece of thread always
appreciate how precious they are.
Plan before the storm; do not start digging a
well when thirsty"

-Chu-tzu (Ancient Chinese philosopher)

Namaste Yogis and Yoginis

There is a story about a couple who were always fighting, so they went to a relationship counsellor who asked them to listen to a piece of classical music. The woman listened and remarked what a soothing piece of music and how lovely the violins were. The man at once reacted, "What violins? There was some very invigorating piano, it was a lively piece, not soothing!"

The counsellor asked them to listen to it again, this time instructing the man to listen for the violins and the woman for the piano. At the end of the piece the man exclaimed, "Well I can't believe it, there WERE beautiful violins; so calming" and the woman said, "You were right, the piano is very lively!"

The therapist reminded them they could now enjoy MORE of the delight of the music by opening up to the other's perspective than they could by holding onto their own opinions. This also applies to life in general. I know it's hard to sometimes let go of what we know, to let in what someone else knows, but I can definitely vouch for the benefits - especially when the other is offering constructive criticism.

This doesn't mean you take on everything everyone else says, or that you let go of your own insight but you can expand your understanding by being open to the other's point of view. I have had some amazing experiences this month. As part of my course I have had to let go even more of holding on to what I "know" and open up my mind again. The results have been remarkable, and I have been able to receive some invaluable information from some generous mentors in a way that I have not been open to in the past. I thank these generous people who have been inspirational this month and encourage you all to take a chance and let go of what you know, and find out what you don't. It's fantastic!

5 MINS WITH…DANNY

Q: How did you come to yoga?

A work colleague recommended I should go. I was a plasterer and he told me how good it made you feel afterwards. Initially I enjoyed the classes and over time I realised that this was a transformative tool that I could have for the rest of my life.

Q: What benefits have you received from yoga?

Thousands! More flexibility, my lower back pain has gone away and I feel much more confident within myself.

Q: What are some of the most interesting experiences you have had through yoga?

Becoming a yoga teacher changed my whole life direction, which led me to taking a trip to Canada where I got to spend a couple months in an Ashram, where I spent time working in the garden and learning about yoga; and I realised there's a larger yoga community out there. It was exciting and inspiring to meet new people, fellow yogis who helped me realise that karma yoga can be a way of connecting and heading towards a common goal.

Q: What else is important in your life?

Family is important to me, and to do my bit to help the environment, and living a life that inspires others.

Danny

Calling all yogi's and yogini's who fancy themselves as a bit of an expert in the kitchen! Yoga and healthy, wholesome, vegetarian food go hand in hand as part of delivering a wholistic approach to life. To compliment this match made in heaven and to share the importance of consciously created wholefood, we are launching a specially created Gold Coast Yoga Centre recipe book later this year.

Send your submission with your full name, a story or special thought associated with your dish, and a photograph of either the dish, or perhaps your family enjoying the dish.

All recipes must be vegetarian, healthy and yummy and if you have ANY doubts about the deliciousness of your recipe, please feel free to bring a sampler into the centre for u to try out (just joking!).
