Namaste Yogis and Yoginis

Well I am off to Sydney to see my mum.. My trip is coinciding with the APEC summit. I hope to be able to attend some of the peace gatherings in the city. Unfortunately I may not get there, as I know my mum would never forgive me if I got arrested the day before my she is heading overseas (and there are some decidedly unfriendly rumblings). I have however got onto all the cyber advocacies I can, like Get Up, Greenpeace, ACF and written letters to editors and to my local members. This is something we can all do from the comfort of our own computer desk! The right to protest is part of the democratic process. Take advantage of the privilege to have your say while we still can. As in all things be mindful when you vote and what the outcomes will be long term, and have faith in the minor parties. They may not hold the majority of power but they can ensure that there is a chance for reasonable debate. As yogis, we educate ourselves and make informed decisions (act), then trust and let go (surrender the fruits of our actions).  This is the true path of karma yoga, as applicable now as it ever was.

What I am

I was smoking a  pack a day just for fun.
The dude next door called one Sunday morning at 2pm to say he was sending his yoga teacher over to us for a free lesson.  I got annoyed and started whining about how I just wanted to call the diner for a large order of fries and a chocolate malt instead.. But I got us and sulkily went to the door to let yoga break in.  (I’ll bend over backwards to keep the peace and look cool to my neighbours, the famous ones anyway).
As it turns out yoga dude was nice.
I thought, I want to be that nice, would yoga turn me nice like him?, so I do yoga and it hurts like hell and I’m not as nice as him but without yoga, I feel I wouldn't be able to stand myself or anybody else ever.  And it’s  so cool to touch your toes.

REVIEWS:

SPRINGBROOK RETREAT

We had a great weekend at Springbrook. We had a really wonderful group of people, delicious food (I’m sure next time some people will come just for Marg’s culinary treats!!), a serene environment, space to meditate, time to chill out, and a lot of fun & laughter. The weather cleared just in time to enjoy some bush walking & the view from the top of the waterfall.
Raasa played a meditative sitar and tabla concert just for us (felt like royalty!) and I think everyone enjoyed the talks and the yoga too!! (ask them!)  Some comments include “the food was scrumptious” “a wonderful weekend” “enjoyed the talks very much” and “feel happy & refreshed”.
I loved spending time with everyone and look forward to the next one! (see website for photos)

ANAHATA– SOUNDS OF CREATION

On Saturday night we hosted Katrina, Shane and friends for a delicious night of sound and voice.
We all loved the many varied instruments and Katrina's enchanting voice.  Camilla and her singing bowls was something to experience as the sounds of the bowls seemed to travel quite deep within the body, ahh. Keep your ears open for any upcoming nights.

A nice story from Thich Nhat Hahn
One winter my friend Jim cam to say with me.  I usually wash the dishes after the evening meal before sitting down and drinking tea with everyone else.  One night, Jim asked if he might was the dishes.  I said “go ahead, but if you wash the dishes you must know the way to wash them”, Jim replied “come on, you think I don't know how to wash dishes?”.  I answered “There are two ways to wash the dishes.  The first is to wash the dishes in order to have clear dishes and the second is to wash the dished in order to was the dishes”...if we cannot wash the dishes, the chances are we won’t be able to drink our tea either.
While drinking the cup of tea, we will only be thinking of other things, barely aware of the cup in our hands. Thus we are sucked away into the future – and we are incapable of actually living one minute of life. (Abbreviated from the book “the miracle of mindfulness”)

MANTRA TO BLESS  CHILDREN—OM KUMARA KUSHALO DAYAYEI NAMAHA
(om Koo-mah-rah Koo shah-loh Dah-yah-yea Nah-mah-hah)

Salutations to the Divine Mother, who brings blessings to children
The future belongs to the children we raise.  If we are loving and kind to our children, our culture will thrive.  If our children receive divine blessings, then our culture is on the path of dharma, or harmony with divine law.  This mantra of the goddess Lakshmi invokes her power as one who blesses children with every good thing.  When we chant this mantra, we are helping to shape the future course of our culture, as well as helping individual children..
