Newsletter June & July 2007

OOPS, I’m a little late for June, sorry!!! Just a testing your attachment to newsletters(hee hee) Anyway, as it seems I am writing the newsletter on almost the last day of June, I have decided to give you a review of the month as well as a what’s coming up in July! Hope you enjoy knowing what’s been going on, and maybe finding some inspiration for future experiences!

Suz’s Trip:

Part of the reason I was distracted was having 8 wonderful days off and spending it in FNQ. Partly with some friends in Cairns and partly on a tour of the Daintree run by Rainforest Rescue.

RR is a wonderful group. Parts of the 145 million year old Daintree rainforest have been zoned residential. (what, are they insane? I hear you say) So RR began a project of buying back as many of these properties as possible for preservation purposes, and also to create wildlife corridors for endangered species such as the unique and majestic cassowary. So the trip was educational as well as being very enjoyable. We had many great guides along the way, including feature guide, wildlife photographer & documentary maker John Young. The rainforest is so beautiful, I came back feeling very regenerated myself. To find out more about RR’s great work, how to help, and just great info about wildlife  check out www.rainforestrescue.org.au.  You might also like to have a look at www.johnyoungwildlife.com.au as well.

Add Ayurveda to your yogic approach:

We are very happy and lucky to have ayurvedic practitioner Michael Hatchett holding sessions at the yoga centre. Ayurveda is a sister science of yoga, some say it is the natural therapies aspect of yoga. Both yoga and Ayurveda come from the same source and share philosophical and energetic viewpoints. Ayurveda is the very practical aspect of what you can change in your diet & lifestyle, what herbs you can take and what remedies you might apply to bring in maximum balance to your health, and thus your whole state of being. It enhances further what you are already doing in your yoga and meditation practice.  Michael is available on Monday afternoons. He is only charging $55 for the initial consultation (about 1 and 1/2 hours) which includes notes and a information about your specific needs. Book in at the front desk. ($25 deposit required.)

Alison Pomroy and the Menopause Workshop

I wasn’t 100% sure what to expect out of this workshop, but whatever it was, was exceeded manifold. Alison herself was a delight, the pure embodiment of yogic femininity and the wise woman. Her knowledge had the kind of depth that only comes from many years (almost 30) of practice and makes everything sound simple yet at the same time profound. It was such a relief to get a wholistic perspective on the topic of menopause, and to feel it was okay to relax and not worry about it so much. Many of the comments in response were about the freedom this gave.

Alison will be back later in the year for a more general workshop. We will hopefully have a few extra guest teachers this year for your interest & illumination! Keep your eye on the web and noticeboard!  NB: For those who attended, Micheal (ayurveda) would be a great complimentary approach, he also works on moving through menopause naturally.

Remember to keep your eye on our website/noticeboard for changes,

extra events, and other interesting stuff!!! (Like the chant for peace, below)

Chant for Peace

OM NAMO NARAYANAYA (Om Na-mo Na-rye-ah-nye-ah)

It is said that this is the personal mantra of Swami Vishnu Devananda, who was inspired by his guru Swami Sivananda to set up yoga vedanta ashrams around the world. Swami Vishnu was a dedicated and tireless messenger for peace, and in Sivananda ashrams all over the world a timetable has been set up so that this mantra is chanted for peace 24 hours a day. If you would like to contribute to creating this peace consciousness feel free to chant it whenever you think to. Ask Suzanne for the rhythm if you are unsure how to chant or just repeat it allowing the mantra to find its own rhythm. Om Namo Narayanana basically translates as a salutation to Vishnu, who in yogic lore is the preserver of peace and life.
