Quotes 2007

Random quotes from various sources-2007
(Kam’s notes)

To the people of the world

There are no problems on earth.
The earth is beautiful, joyous, cosmic, eternal.
The world is the unhappy superstructure man has imposed on the earth.
The world consists of his problems.

Both earth & world are within you. What you see outside & how it affects you is purely the reflection of what is within you. If you see & feel beauty in your life, it is the earth, the life within you, that you are perceiving. If you see problems & feel unhappy in your life you are looking at the world.
To reach the immortality of life on earth within you, you have to dissolve your attachment to the world. That attachment is devilishly subtle. Any mental or emotional pain you feel at any time is it.
You must see this, & try not to water it down by making exceptions & excuses as the world in you will do. You must face the pain in you, the world in you, without running away into justifications. There are no justifications for unhappiness, none whatsoever.
To remove any room in you for doubt & interpretations I will repeat the fundamental truth: Any mental or emotional pain you feel at any time in your life, irrespective of the cause, is due to the world in you. You have left the earth & are concentrating on the world.
You must see through yourself by recognising that your pain or confusion is your love of the world. You must see through the world by recognising it for what it is, what it has done to you & what it is doing to you. The world is only ever as pressing a problem as your love of it.
By stillness & with courage you must descend to the bottom of the world in you. And then through the bottom of the world in you. That is hell, for a while. But it is your hell, no-one else’s; the hell you have been pleased to make for yourself on earth by believing in the world & attaching to its values, its ways & the things & persons in it, all of which are always going to leave or elude you, anyway. Anything you love in the world will cause you pain. That pain is the hell you must pass through – either now, or in the process of your physical death.
Go through hell wrongly & you go around in circles making more problems, more world without end, more hell for yourself. Go through hell rightly & you reunite with the changeless beauty & joy of the earth in yourself as yourself. And in spite of your worldly dreads & fears, you lose nothing. For only fear dies.

After age 70 the brain has difficulty thinking reflectively

Each persona on the inside is a person on the outside.

Up till the 4th century Christ was called the ‘sun.’
From the 4th century Christ was called the ‘son.’

Between each higher realm or heaven lies a district of mists & darkness & a wide space.

Between each lower realm stands space filled with fire great abysses & utter darkness.

Each $1 spent in health maintenance saves $3 in disease treatment.

The ego which incarnates into a certain family covers itself with the sheaths characteristic

All problems intensify when you get married.

The best indicator of future behaviour is relevant past behaviour.

Never invest more than you can afford to lose.

Relationship relaunch after an affair, (?) questions to ask:

1. Is the situation isolated or a pattern?

2. Do you feel that own it or make excuses?

3. Do you think they have insight or are they oblivious to what they do?

4. Are they sorry for the choice or sorry they got caught?

5. Do you think they are willing to clean this mess up, whatever it takes or in denial?

6. Is doing this out of character or are they just insensitive across the board?

7. Is this a legacy (family history) or is this new behaviour?

The flowering (arising) of desire is the end of it.
(it uses its’ energy & dies) (perception sees the false & discards it)

Each person has on average 1 million parasites living on them.

Three-quarters of the world’s population have some kind of worms.

They blame him who sits silent,
They blame him who talks much,
They blame him who speaks moderately in measured terms;
There is not any one in the world who is not blamed.

Cut down the whole forest of desire, not single trees; danger lurks in that forest.
Having cut down trees & uprooted the weeds of desire, you are free.

   The Dhammapada

Even when someone misunderstands what you know to be true, you yourself fall into error if you point out the mistake.

Since I did not make a point of indicating the specific mistakes of others, nothing untoward occurred.

Because the wise individual endowed with inner understanding comprehends the meaning of Bodhi Dharma, he discovers his own errors & those of his instructors without being told & employs the necessary correctives

Dogen

He keeps dumb as a stone in fruitless discussions & feigns deafness in useless talk.

He remains insensible to all that is done by rote & habit, untouched by longing & loathing, rejoicing & grief. Inattentive to the friendship or hatred of others, he is devoted to those devoted to him & cunning to those crafty with him.

What sorrow can assail the liberated man who sees no lasting good in an ever-changing world? Of what avail are prosperity or the enjoyment of pleasures, when they are succeeded in the next moment by adversity & pain, baneful & embittering in their effects. It is freedom from pleasure & pain, from attraction & aversion, from desire & dislike, from prosperity & adversity altogether, that contributes to the true source of happiness of man. Abandoning interest in pleasant & unpleasant objects, & relinquishing desire for all enjoyments, you will reach a cool indifference which will still your mind like frost.

   Yoga Vasishtha

They give to Me name, who am without name,
Ascribe actions to Me, who am without actions,
Think of Me with a physical body though I have none,
Give form to Me, though I am formless,
Give attributes to Me when I am without attributes &
Worldly duties to Me where I have no obligations.

They allocate colour to Me, who am without colour,
Qualities to Me, who am without qualities,
Hands & feet to Me, who am without hands & feet.
They establish measure for Me, when I am boundless,
Location for Me, when I am omnipresent.
As one sees silvan scenery in a dream when asleep,
They imagine I who am without ears, have ears,
Who am without eyes, have eyes,
Who am without limbs, have limbs &
Who am without form, have a form.
They think Me manifest, when I am not manifest.

So long as there are natural conditions (prakriti), actions are being done, because all actions are subject to the three gunas & are being done involuntarily.

If you said you would do nothing, will your ears cease to hear or your eyes fail to see, will the nose its function, will breathing be stopped or will the mind become free from all ideas? Will hunger & thirst disappear? Will the cycle of sleep & waking stop? Will feet refuse to move & above all will you be free from the chains of life & death? If all this cannot stop, then what is it that you have abandoned? It is futile to believe that one can take up or throw away actions.

So long as one is linked with nature (prakriti), his abandonment of actions is impossible.

    Dnyaneshwari

Mind is two-fold, pure & impure.
Polluted by desire, it is impure; free from desires, it is pure.

   Maitrayana Upanishad

During meditation, keep the mind unobstructed like space;
After meditation, regard the flow of events as a rainbow.
Thus the things which so allure the world are seen to be insubstantial hallucinations.

From birth until the present moment, life was squandered in futile plans.

The great lord of death, that lethal assassin, blocks every direction, every path.
His minions even now watch you: your time is coming quickly.

   Losang Kalsang Gyatso

The four elements are a source of pain, being empty.

To have a multitude of desires is an affliction.

The ignorant are infatuated with the cycle of life & death.

The end of collection is dispersion.
The end of rising is falling.
The end of meeting is parting.
The end of birth is death.

There is profit & loss, slander & honour, praise & abuse, suffering & pleasure; in this world the Enlightened One is not controlled by these external things; they will cease as quickly as they came.

You are all Buddhas. There is nothing that you need to achieve. Just open your eyes.

Waste no time; reverse attraction to this life.
Reverse attraction to future lives: think ceaselessly on the infallibility of karma

   Tsong kha pa

The path of knowledge (jnana) is for whose who are weary of life; those who still have desires should pursue the path of sublimation  through works (karma); & to those who are not completely indifferent nor too much attached the devotional path (bahkti) bears fruit.

Learn from these facets of Nature: though trampled on by all.

The jewel of the lotus by Raghavan Iyer

When you make two into one & when you make what is within like what is without &
What is without like what is within. And what is above like what is below, & when
you unite male & female into one. So that the male is no longer male & the female is no
longer female. Then you shall enter the Kingdom.

The sons of men cannot realise that they have come empty to the world & must leave it
empty.

The world is unworthy of a man who finds himself.

The kingdom will never come if you are expecting it. Nobody will say look here or look
there. The kingdom is (already) spread throughout the world & no man sees it.

   The gospel of Thomas

As often as I have been among men, I have returned home a lesser man.

   Seneca

It is easier to keep silent altogether than not to talk more than we should. It is easier to
remain quietly at home than to keep due watch over ourselves in public. Therefore,
whoever is resolved to live an inward & spiritual life must, with Christ-consciousness,
withdraw from the crowd.

Jesus has many who love His Kingdom in Heaven, but few who bear His Cross. He has
many who desire comfort, but few who desire suffering. He finds many to share His
feast, but few willing to share His fasting......There is no other way to life & to true inner
peace that the way of the Cross & of  daily self-denial.

Renounce desire, & you shall find peace.

   Thomas A Kempis

Lord, make me a instrument of thy Peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, let me sow pardon;
Where there is doubt, let me sow faith;
Where there is despair, let me sow hope;
Where there is darkness, let me sow light;
Where there is sadness, let me sow joy;
Oh God, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled, as to console.
Grant that I may not so much seek to be understood, as to understand.
Grant that I may not so much seek to be loved, as to love.
For it is in the giving that we receive;
It is in the pardoning that we are pardoned;
It is in dying to the self that we are born to eternal life.

   Fransis of Assisi

Men of sound judgement are freed from mental agitation & perfected in self-mastery by
retraining the flight of the mind & fixing it in inward meditation.

They are indifferent both to the sweet pleasures of this life, as well as the cheerless
prospects of future enjoyments.

The net of desires, ensnaring men like birds in a trap, is cut asunder by the spirit of
Dispassion, as the meshes of a net are severed by the teeth of a mouse.

The world displays naught but the appearance & disappearance of bodies, now seen
moving about at the sport of time, & now falling prey to it forever.

He understands rightly who knows that he is not the body subject to disease & danger,
fear & anxiety, pain, old age & death.

   Yoga Vasishtha Maha-ramayana

Dark Night of the Soul

For truly in her Dark Night the soul feels the shadow of death & the groans & tortures of
Hell. All this she suffers now & further more she is overcome by a direful terror that this
is ‘forever’. And she is haunted by this same sense of being forsaken & despised by all
created people & things, particularly her friends. She feel within herself a profound &
utter scarcity  of the three kinds of wealth: worldly, physical or spiritual & sees herself
plunged into the contrary evils: Miserable trifles of imperfections, aridnesses &
emptinesses of perceptions of the faculties & desolation of the spirit in darkness. To this
is  added that she cannot, owing to the solitude & desolation this night produces in her,
find comfort or support in any teaching or in any spiritual master. For she is so immersed
& absorbed in this passionate sorrow of her own evil doings wherein she so clearly sees
her vileness. She thinks that ‘as others do not see or feel what she sees or feels they speak
from lack of apprehension & instead of being comforted she does receive fresh grief
realising that this is no remedy for her hurt & she is right. For the soul can do little in this
condition of terror until in this purgation the spirit is softened, humbled & purified, &
becomes so refined, simple & rarefied, as to be enabled to become One with the spirit of
God, according to the degree of union of love His mercy vouchsafes to concede.

In order to arrive at having pleasure in everything,
Desire pleasure in nothing.
In order to arrive at possessing everything,
Desire to possess nothing.
In order to arrive at being everything,
Desire to be nothing.
In order to arrive at knowing everything,
Desire to know nothing.

For when the mind dwells upon anything,
Thou art ceasing to cast thyself upon the All.

Prepare yourself to endure many trials & obstacles in this vale of tears; for such will be
your lot wherever you are, & you will encounter them wherever you conceal yourself. It
must needs be so; nor is there any remedy or means of escape from ills & griefs; you
must endure them. Leave consolations to God, to dispose as he wills. But set yourself to
endure trials, regarding them as the greatest of all comforts, for the sufferings of this
present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory to come, even though you
alone were to endure them.

Be assured of this, that you must live a dying life. And the more completely a man dies to
self, the more he begins to live in God.

   St. John of the Cross

The four degrees of love for God:

1. The soul thirsts for God
2. The soul thirsts to go to God
3. The soul thirsts to be in God
4. The soul thirsts in God’s way

Richard of St. Victor

Whoever leaves this world behind him passes away from mortality & he attains immortality. If you do desire to reach the abode of immortality & to attain this exalted station, divest thyself first of the self, & then summon unto yourself a winged steed out of nothingness, to bear you aloft. Clothe yourself with the garment of nothingness & drink the cup of annihilation. Cover your breast with a nothingness, & draw over your head the robe of non-existence. Set your foot in the stirrup of complete renunciation & looking straight before you, ride the steed of non-being to the place where nothing is. You will be lost again & again, yet go on your way in tranquillity, until at last you shall reach the world where you are lost altogether to self.

You never enjoy the world aright, till you see how a sand-grain exhibiteth the power &
wisdom of God.

Your enjoyment of the world is never right, till every morning you awake in Heaven; see
yourself in your Father’s Palace; & look upon the skies, the earth, & the air as Celestial
Joys: having such a reverend esteem of all, as if you were among the Angels......You
never enjoy the world aright, till the Sea itself floweth in your veins, till you are clothed
with the heavens, & crowned with the stars: & perceive yourself to be the sole heir of the
whole world.

Till your spirit filleth the whole world, & the stars are your jewels.

Till you love men so as to desire their happiness with a thirst equal to the zeal of your
own.

The world is a mirror of infinite beauty, yet no man sees it.

The only problem with an honest buck is that they are so hard to make, the margins are

I had the privilege to be shown it (my destiny) as a young man. It was almost as if a

An elderly person from Northern Europe has few of no wrinkles, no brown blotches &
the skin has a firmness that you would not expect in someone their age who has grown up
in a sunnier climate.

Scientists have shown that damage from UV exposure is detectable in the skin after only
30 minutes of exposure.

Daily ambient UV exposure over the years is a enough to accelerated ageing of the skin.

UVA rays comprise about 99% of the solar UV radiation that reaches the earth, with the
shorter UVB rays making up the remainder.

One of the main things is that UV radiation activates enzymes in our skin that break
down its supporting elastin & collagen.

Additional brown spots occur due to the build up of clumps of oxidised lipids in the skin.

Eat a diet high in coloured fruits & vegetables, tea & grape seed extract, as the anti-
oxidants they all contain will help protect your skin.

Dr Geoffrey Heber

Sunlight is the best source of Vitamin D, which not only helps us absorb calcium & phosphorous for healthy teeth & bones but releases a ‘feel good’ chemical in the brain, known as serotonin.

Skin colour

The yellows & oranges of carotinoids like beta-carotene, lutin, lycopene & zeaxanthine are important in modulating the colour of the skin & are dependant on diet.

The redness comes largely from the amount of oxygen-enriched blood that is flowing in the skin.

The blueness in skin comes from the oxygen-poor blood that is laden with carbon dioxide.

Red & brown melanin give all the shades of skin.

We all have a basic skin colour that is genetically determined & sets the rate at which melanin is produced.

Hormones can stimulate the production of melanin.

IPD-Immediate pigment darkening occurs within a few hours of going into sunlight.
DPD-Delayed pigment darkening occurs within about two to three days of exposure.

An acid PH can change melanin into colourless melanin.

Extrinsic ageing is skin damage caused by sun exposure, smoking, wind & chemical exposure.

   Dr Michael Rich

With every breath you take you generate free radicals, the uncontrolled oxidants that damage cells. The older you get, the fewer natural antioxidants your body produces to keep these destructive molecules in check. As they accumulate, health deteriorates & ageing accelerates leaving you susceptible to everything from wrinkles to serious degenerative diseases.

Factors that increase free radical damage & antioxidant need are:

1. Air pollution
2. Chronic disease
3. Second-hand smoke
4. Fried foods or charcoal-broiled
5. Nitrates
6. Cured meats
7. Infection
8. Vigorous exercise
9. Menopause
10. Mental stress
11. Sun-exposure
12. X-rays

Carotenoids are pigments found in orange, yellow, red & green fruits & vegetables.

Major free radical scavengers are selenium & zinc.

There are strong indications that UV light through the eyes stimulates the immune system

There are people all over the world who live at high altitude or at the equator, where levels of ultraviolet light are high, yet they are virtually free from all types of cancer. So, it is obvious that many other factors nutrition, lifestyle, & so on need to be evaluated.

A recent report from the US food & drug administration concluded the 14 out of 17 suntan lotions containing PABA can be carcinogenic when used in the sun & can cause genetic damage to the DNA in the skin.

The working definition rebirthers use for pain are:

The reality is that there are civilisations & peoples existing today who do not suffer from cancer & indeed cannot record one victim of the disease in their culture.

The proven preventatives & treatments for cancer cannot be patented because the techniques are preventative in nature & the active ingredients are available no further than your local supermarket, waiting for you to eat them.

In Australia 8% of hospital patients are accidentally killed or injured by the staff.
(environment & health news, 1998)

Ernst Krebs (biochemist) was aware of a number of cultures who just did not suffer from cancer, heart disease, diabetes & other degenerative conditions, but who lived to ages in many cases exceeding 120 yrs. He recognised that these people lived in non-toxic environments & consumed foods that were minerally abundant.

All alternative cancer treatments threaten the gravy-train of the $11 billion cancer-drug industry.

The people who are directing cancer research have a vested interest in keeping the scientists away from that area (prevention) & focused on DRUG cures, things that can be patented, marketed & so forth, & the US FDA is in total collusion in this.

Total US cancer expenditure is over $100 billion a yr.

Nutritional therapy for cancer can never be part of the orthodox healing ritual for four reasons:

1. It cannot be patented
2. The mystery of cancer & its treatment would evaporate
3. The drug establishment & cancer charities would be cut out of the loop & our grocers would become our new doctors
4. An end would come to the fear which binds the followers to the medical religion

In 1991 a study of doctors who qualified in 1986 found that 58% of men & 76% of women regretted entering medicine.

The BMA estimates that up to 13,000 practicing UK doctors are addicted to drugs or alcohol.

Surgery-no evidence that patients who receive radical or extensive surgical options live any longer than those who receive none at all. Sometimes life-saving. Least harmful.

Vitamin (metabolic) therapy: B17, destroys cancer cells while nourishing non-cancer cells.

In cases where cancer is first diagnosed, long-term survival for vitamin therapy is gauged at around 80% as compared with 28% for orthodox therapies.

Long-term prevention from cancer using a detoxifying high plant dietary & adequate supplies of B17 in the diet, together with a clean, non-carcinogenic environment is as close to 100% as you can get.

B17 sources-millet, buckwheat, macadamia nuts, bamboo shoots, mung, lima & butter  beans, apricot, apple & most other seeds.

From the time the cure had become known in Europe, all it had taken to conquer scurvy was 450 years, millions of deaths & finally the belief in a simple diet of fruit.

Philip Day-Cancer-why were still dying to know the truth

Greed includes any liking, being attracted by something, wanting. One who dies with nay liking or wanting in his mind is said to be reborn as a ghost.

Aversion is the cause of your fighting. Aversion arises because you do not get what you want & what you get you don’t want. Dislike is aversion. If you die with dislike in your mind, you are reborn in hell.

Delusion is ignorance about the benefits derived from being charitable, being moral & practicing meditation. If you die with delusion in your mind, you will be reborn as an animal.

Webu Sayadaw died aged 81 yrs. Was a monk from 9yrs-20yrs, then completed 4 yrs of solitude.

Among the thirteen practices called dhutanga, which are often taken up by monks living in solitude to combat laziness & indulgence is the practice of never lying down, not even to sleep. Anapana is one of the forty techniques for the development of samadhi. Anapana requires one to be aware 1) that one is breathing in while breathing in, 2) that one is breathing out while one is breathing out of the spot or area which the stream of air touches while  one is breathing in & out.

Front he moment we are born to the moment we die, there is the in-breath & the  out-breath. Everytime we breath in or out, the breath touches near the nostrils. Everytime it touches we should be aware of it.

All types of awakening are alike in that they involve complete realisations of the four noble truths & issue in freedom from all craving, aversion & delusion about reality.

You do actually want to attain happiness, don’t you?

Take up one object of meditation & pursue it with steadfast effort to the end.

When you focus on the breath you come out of suffering immediately. Does it cost you anything?

Matter is composed of eight basic elements.

Saying that we have to make a living to maintain our body, we postpone meditation from morning to the evening & from evening to the morning. In this way we keep delaying the putting forth of effort.

Those who are still young & healthy say they can’t meditate because they have to study & they want to enjoy themselves.

It is difficult to think useful thoughts.

When you are enjoying yourself, stay on the spot (of the breath)
When you are ill, stay on the spot.
When you are strong & healthy, stay on the spot.
When you have company, stay on the spot.
When you are all alone, stay on the spot.
When people say unpleasant things, stay on the spot.
When they speak respectfully, stay on the spot.

What is the best for you? The food your wife offers you & that keeps you satisfied for half a day or what the Buddha offers you & that keeps you satisfied for the remainder of the cycle of birth & death.

Let meditation be dangerous! If I have to die, so be it. I have died in the past also.

HGH (human growth hormone) holds the key to the ageing process. It stimulates the growth & maintenance of bone tissue & muscle mass. It also facilitates the repair of damaged DNA within the cell as well as proper cell division. Low levels of HGH contribute to faster ageing while high levels of HGH slow the ageing process & even reverse it-10 to 20yrs. (yoga inversions stimulate the release of HGH)

Everything in the body vibrates, thoughts in the mind vibrate, emotions all vibrate-every facet of the person vibrates. The witness has never vibrated, does not vibrate & will never vibrate.  You are the witness, not limited to body, emotions & mind.

Everything is for the best in this best of possible worlds.

The courtesans are turned out in their best,
How delightfully they speak & laugh along the lovely green river.
They call out to gentlemen the day long,
And temp them with songs that charm the hardest heart.
They mince about with flirtatious glances so difficult to resist.
Someday, though, even these captivating women will have nothing left,
Any they will be left out in the harsh cold.

Leave off your mad rush for gold & jewels,
I’ve got something far more precious for you:
A bright pearl that sparkles more brilliantly than the sun & moon,
And illuminates each & every eye.
Lose it & you’ll wallow in a sea of pain;
Find it & you’ll safely reach the other shore.
I’d freely present this treasure to anyone,
But hardly anyone asks for it.

The ageing process in Chinese medicine:

Qi Bo answered, “In general, the reproductive physiology of a woman is such that at seven years of age her kidney energy becomes full, her permanent teeth come in, & her hair grows long. At fourteen years the fertility essence matures, the conception & vital channels responsible for conception open, menstruation begins, & conception is possible. At 21 years the kidney energy is strong & healthy, the wisdom teeth appear, & the body is vital & flourishing. At twenty-eight the bones & tendons are well developed & the hair & secondary sex characteristics are complete. This is the height of female development. At thirty-five years the stomach & large intestine channels that govern the major facial muscles begin to deplete, the muscles begin to atrophy, facial wrinkles appear & the hair begins to thin. At forty-two all three yang channels are exhausted, the entire face is wrinkled, & the hair begins to turn gray. At forty-nine the conception & vital channels are completely empty, & fertility essence has died up. Hence, the flow of the menses ceases & the woman is no longer able to conceive.

In the male, at eight years of age the kidney energy becomes full, the permanent teeth appear & the hair becomes long. At sixteen years of age the kidney energy is ample, the fertility essence is mature & the jing (kidney essence) is ripe, so procreation is possible. At twenty-four the kidney qi is abundant, the bones & tendons grow strong, & the wisdom teeth come in. at the thirty-second year the body is at its peak of strength & functions of the male are at their height. By forty the kidney qi begins to wane, teeth become loose, & the hair starts to fall. At forty-eight the yang energy of the head begins to deplete, the face becomes sallow, the hairs gray & the teeth deteriorate. By fifty-six the liver energy weakens, causing the tendons stiffen. At sixty-four the fertility essence dries up & the jing (kidney essence) is drained, resulting in kidney exhaustion, fatigue & weakness. When the energy of all the organs is full, the excess energy stores in the kidney is excreted for the purpose of conception. But now, the organs have aged & their energies have become depleted, the bones & tendons have become frail & stiff & movements are hampered. The kidney reservoir becomes empty, marking the end of the power of conception.

If one knows how to live a correct way of life, conserve one’s energy & follow the tao, it is possible a man could procreate at the age of 100 years.

Not so long ago there were people known as achieved beings who had true virtue, understood the way of life, & were able to adapt to & harmonize with the universe & the seasons. They too were able to keep their mental energy through proper concentration. These achieved beings did not live like ordinary humans, who tend to abuse themselves. They were able to travel freely to different times & places since they were not governed by conventional views of time & space. Their sense perceptions were supernormal, going far beyond the sight & hearing of ordinary humans. They are also able to preserve their life spans & live in full health, much as the immortals did.

There was a third type of person known as the sage. The sages lived peacefully under heaven on earth, following the rhythms of the planet & the universe. They adapted to society without being swayed by cultural trends. They were free from emotional extremes & lived a balanced, contented existence. Their outward appearance, behaviour & thinking did not reflect the conflicting norms of society. The sages appear busy but were never depleted. Internally they did not burden themselves. They abided in calmness, recognising the empty nature of phenomenological existence. The sages lived over one hundred years because they did not scatter & disperse their energies.

The yellow emperor’s classic of medicine by Maoshing NI

We observe that wounding gets passed on as a legacy.

We observe that people have innate impulses to get married & become parents, but no inbuilt program for how to do it.

We observe that where people get stuck in parenting is an indication of where they are stunted psychologically.

We observe that the process of becoming a conscious marriage partner is similar to the process of becoming a conscious parent.

In a conscious marriage, partners grow when they stretch to meet the needs of the other, & they heal when their needs are met by their partner.

Every child has the need to survive, & express his aliveness & to experience his connection to others & to that which is greater than himself.

The snow white message: Fall in love with the right person & you will live happily ever after.

At some point, though, real life begins to intrude. Things get complicated. We start disappointing each other. Sooner or later, we sit across the breakfast table from each other & realise that we are not living the dream.

ROMANCE-(on the surface) Two people fall madly in love. They’ve never felt this way before. They delight in their differences & feel complete in each other’s company in a way they never have with anyone else. They have a sense that the happiness will last forever. UNDERNEATH-They have chosen each other for very specific reasons, even though they are not aware of them. This means that people are drawn to partners who closely resemble that parent they had the most difficulty with in childhood.

MARRIAGE (on the surface) The romance lasts for some time, & then it begins to fade, usually after about three years. Conflicts begin to surface, & marriage partners end up wondering if they made a mistake. Their partner doesn’t seem to be the same person they thought they were marrying. This isn’t want they bargained for. UNDERNEATH-The same difficulties they had with their parents start surfacing with their partners. Each of them expects the other to continue to meet his or her needs completely & is disappointed when this doesn’t happen. Both of them feel as if they are giving more than they are getting. Whether they get past this power struggle or not depends on whether they can reinvest the relationship with an empathic understanding for the way each of them was injured in the relationship with his or her parents.

Inevitably the reality of the baby doesn’t match the romantic vision.

Harville Hendrix & Helen Hunt from ‘Giving the love that heals’

Do not have evil-doers for friends, do not have low people for friends: have virtuous people for friends.

By comparison with the hundred year long life of one who does not see the Path to immortality, one day of a man who does is greater.

   The Buddha

Who is there on this earth with soul more dead than he who having obtained a human incarnation & a male body, madly strives for the attainment of selfish objects.

   Sankaracharya

Change of environment is unnecessary. It is the mind which suggests this wrong idea. Your efforts can be made even now, whatever the environment.

The ego is the source of thought.

Solitude is the inner silence. It is in man’s mind.  But man attached to the things of the outer life cannot get solitude, for his mind is not controlled nor silenced.

A master forgets everything about his own personality being immersed in the sea of God.

The master becomes only the instrument of God, & when his mouth opens it speaks God’s words without effort or forethought.

The scriptures are of value only so long as one does not turn inwards, in the Quest of the Self. As soon as one does so, all that he has learnt of it will be forgotten & lost.

All masters are one they never contradict one another.

Giving a brief answer to the question as to how he saw the world & the people around him he said, “You are unreal for me, like shadows.”

Meditation is a battle for it is the effort to keep hold of one thought to the exclusion of all else; other thoughts arise & try to sink that thought; when the latter (single thought) gains strength the others are put to flight.

The mind cannot be controlled by one that takes it to be something that really exists.

   Ramana Maharishi

Every moment that I am over-powered by uncontrolled & aimless thinking, I am destroying a vital bridge on my path. I will only have to build it again later, with much toil & pain.

Delay simply means that I consider certain things more important than my inner development, true life.

I know that suffering is the main form of repayment for evil once done, no matter or not whether we can remember it.
There are deep reasons for all suffering.

Nobody can deny, that everything in this world passes away & is lost in the eternity behind us. With every day, every human being becomes older & approaches closer to his grave, no matter how young, strong & attractive they may seem to be now.

The temporary enchantment of life has undoubtedly its intoxicating influence on the majority of people, but it is possible only because of their limited minds & instability, as well as short-sightedness about the future. We know that unchangeable happiness & permanent satisfaction in life do not exist at all among us here, on the earth. Even the most vigorous health must be destroyed & the sturdiest body must find its final rest in the dust of the grave.

Real virtue, that is, spiritual advancement does not find any ready recognition among ordinary people, who are not engaged in a similar search & who are interested in the material side of things. This is because adequate experience is necessary for it & such is not present in the worldly masses.

The maharishi once explained meditation as a passive process, consisting of holding to only one thought, which thereby eliminates all others.

Desires destroy all peace in man, by yielding to those desires they grow in number & strength.

   Mouni Sadhu

The more one knows, & the better one understands, the more strict shall one be judged, unless one’s life be also holy. (Morality equal knowledge)

It is vanity to follow the desires of the flesh, & to labour for that for which thou must afterwards suffer grievous punishment. (The astro-mental world is hostile to him because, in his physical life, he created many negative (evil) cliches, which are visible to the dwellers of those subtler worlds.)

   Thomas Kempis

Regarding alike pleasure & pain, gain & loss, victory & defeat, fight thou thy battle. Thus sin will not stain thee.

A yogi should constantly practice concentration of the heart, remaining in seclusion alone, subduing his body & mind & being free from longing & ownership.
